This series was inspired by the contradiction of simplicity and complexity of a person’s character. The series is kept simple with minimal distractions to bring focus to the subject’s outline which is emphasized by the harsh light that wraps around their faces which in turn form a harsh shadow that hides their facial expressions, drawing the viewer in with the void to separate the tangible from the intangible. This invokes identity and strives to serve as a reminder that one simply just cannot fill the gaps of another person. 

A Family Portrait aims to allow space for self-discovery.
