Used to Be explores the connection between the daily mundane and the unnoticed landscape. The series, photographed on expired 35mm film, captures a slice of nature before they are urbanised more, giving her a voice through the photographs that are taken before it is gone forever. Allowing the viewer to pause, ponder the fill the gaps about the unnoticed scene whilst entering these scenes.
The images create a paradoxical effect, drawing viewers into the photographs as they also see the image from the point of view of the detached observer who navigates through the landscape without noticing most of their surroundings. The tension is emphasized by the viewer’s ability to act either as a detached observer or an active participant of the ever-changing landscape.
